New Tech News

Each spring, we update our Local Control Accountability Plan, which describes how we’re going to meet our educational goals with the funding available to us.

One part of that plan is an assessment of how well we welcome and take advantage of parent involvement and engagement in our schools. We’d like to hear your feedback and opinions on that topic.

Click here to complete this short survey online in English or Spanish, by May 10. (Paper surveys are provided at the schools and the District office, but we prefer you take the survey online)

Thank you!

This week's Family Bulletin is full of important information!  You can find it here:

Thank you to all of the families that were able to make it to the New Student Welcome Night!  If you weren't, that is ok, and here are the resources that were shared that evening:

You may return the filled out family interest form and incoming 9th grade course request by either filling them out and returning them to me via email OR you can drop them off to the New Tech High office starting April 2nd.

A couple of important dates to remember:

  • The Incoming 9th grade Summer College Readiness Academy targets students that will be taking Math 1 next year.  More info and how to register can be found at: http://www.newtechhigh.org/scra.  Applications are due April 25th!
  • Join us at Open House on April 9th at 5 pm for a Barbecue and 6 pm for the Showcase.
  • Join us at La Strada dell Arte Street Art Festival on April 28th at 11 am here at New Tech High!
  • Freshman Connection is on Friday, June 8th from 8:30 to 12:30 pm.  It is for students only.

Thank you and welcome to the New Tech High family!

Each spring, students in grades 3-8 and high school participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). English language arts/literacy, mathematics, and science tests are included in CAASPP.

For CAASPP testing, students who have the most significant cognitive disabilities, as designated in their active individualized education program, are eligible to take the California Alternative Assessments (CAAs).

The testing window opens April 2 for NVUSD students. The actual testing period within that window varies at each school.

This year, your child will take the following test(s), depending on his or her grade level:

  • Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment in English language arts/literacy (grades 3-8 and grade 11)
  • Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment in mathematics (grades 3-8 and grade 11)
  • California is in the process of implementing the California Next Generation Science Standards. As part of that implementation, students in grades 5, 5, 8, and high school will try out a new test called the California Science Test, or CAST.

These tests measure what your child knows and is able to do. Results help identify gaps in knowledge or skills early on so your child can get the support he or she needs to be successful in school.

For more information about tests, results, preparation, and the Alternative Assessments, visit the NVUSD Student Testing webpage.

For information on specific dates and times when your child will take the test in each subject, please contact your child's teacher or the school office.
